My dear,

Yesterday (in my past), I fought with the best to mold the world how I saw it should be – good. I screamed at the top of my lungs for freedom for all. And I clawed at walls of segregation with my bare hands.

But today, the only walls I’m breaking down are those within me. I quiet my voice, and shout freedom with my actions to show that no one can truly take it away. And I fight with myself, within myself, to mold my being ever so closer to how I see I can be – wise.

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.

Falsely yours,
Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī
