My dear,

Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.

But some of us don’t get this pleasure.

Some of us are too busy to sleep. Too busy, working 12 hours a day at dead-end jobs we hate, to sleep. Too busy, being responsible because society said we have to be, to sleep.

To these people I say, watch out. If you’re not given the opportunity to be quietly insane in your dreams, you’ll soon find yourself insane in your livelihood; and quiet and safe will be the last words that’ll come to mind to describe the intensity of it all.

Falsely yours,
William Charles Dement
