My dear,

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

And I’m going to tell you a little secret, it’s not easy. It’s not easy seeing the path only you can walk on in this world of pitch-black darkness.

But I’ll tell you another little secret, you don’t really have to see it.

See the people you admire? They each have a small light in them and their works that points you in the direction you’re supposed to walk in. No, don’t follow their light directly, just let them hazily point you on your path, and pretty soon, after those firefly-like lights have led you for a while, you’ll get to a point where you realize that you don’t need them anymore, that you’re now experienced enough to walk blindfolded by the darkness and still remain calm, and that you can now create your own light of any shape and color; be it gold, green, red, or hell, gamboge. It’ll be your light, and that’s all that matters.

Don’t take your light from others. Don’t be a light-thief, be a light creator. A Prometheus of sorts.

Falsely yours,
Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde
