Who’s idea was it to have the majority choose the fate of the minority? Who’s idea was it to have the bully of a crowd determine the fate of the individual?
Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority;
the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).
The minority has to be free from the all-consuming hand of the majority.
