The Future Belongs To The Geeks. Nobody Else Wants It.

My dear,

In reality Google, Facebook, and Twitter could have been made by much ‘cooler’ individuals. But they weren’t.

Why?

Because when these things started out (when the future started out) they weren’t cool. Programming wasn’t cool when Google was being made. Spending all day online used to be uncool before Facebook made it addictively impossible to do otherwise. And Twitter… don’t even get me started on Twitter.

The future’s cool. But it’s always a geek in the present moment. And no cool kid would be caught dead with a geek.

The future belongs to the geeks. Nobody else wants it.

Falsely yours,
Hugh MacLeod
