My dear,

Capital punishment is society’s final assertion that it will not forgive.

And no matter the situation, any moment we do not forgive, is a moment we should be ashamed of.

For without forgiveness we lose the thin line between ourselves and the heartless enemies we fear to become.

Are we heartless? Do we not understand that another feels pain the exact same way we do? Do we not understand that another has people that care for them and that they in turn care for? Do we not understand that another has a life to live, and one if which they want to live freely?

If we understand all this, yet still remain unforgiving, we are hypocrites.

Falsely yours,
Martin Luther King, Jr.
