Why was “QUOTES” started?
Well, no matter how naive it sounds, I started “QUOTES” in order to change the world… At least you can’t tell me I don’t aim high.
What does “QUOTES” offer that’s so great that you think it can change the world?
Three things. Quotes, letters, and clothing. They aren’t great individually, but by putting them together I truly believe they can change the world.
Can you go into detail about all three?
Sure.
Quotes:
In a world where we are constantly bombarded by messages, I’ve always found myself reading quotes. One day, I actually took the time to ask myself as to why I read these quotes when I blatantly ignore so many others. That’s when I realized that I read quotes because they provided positive inspiration in something quick enough to read under a minute. They usually offered the same information as a long winded ramble, but I didn’t have to set aside a great deal of time to read them, and that was their appeal; quick inspiration.
Letters:
One of the things I always loved about the web was the ability to subscribe to newsletters that emailed you one inspirational picture/comic a day (think of your favorite Sunday newspaper cartoon arriving in your inbox every day). Over time I noticed that these daily inspirational emails did more for me than most blog posts I read. See, they somehow gave me that boost right when I needed it, like a friend who’s always there for you.
I wanted to offer that to others.
So I decided that I would write letters every day based on quotes that are quick enough to be read under a minute, allowing people to visit the site every day and be inspired without taking up too much of their time. I even took this one step further by making the subscription list where if you subscribe you’ll receive the letters/blog posts in your inbox instead of having to visit the site, taking up even less time.
All the quotes on this website are from other people, and I gladly acknowledge that, but the letters are written by yours truly.
Clothing:
I don’t think clothing alone can change the world. But if you combine clothing with quotes, I believe it can. Clothing is one of those few art canvases which one can use to spread a message to a large group of people and make a statement about themselves at the same time.
When you wear a shirt with a message on it, you’re silently shouting to everyone that reads what’s on your shirt.
You’re conveying to them a message that you think they should hear, and at the same time you’re telling them about your beliefs and about who you are as a person. This allows for people that share your message to find you easier in this crowded world we live in, and allows you all to be a force for that message… Now imagine that that message is a positive one, a cool one, an inspirational one.
So what do you wish happens as a result of all this?
A better world of course. Before people can take action to help their fellow human being, they have to think about it first. And that’s what I want to do.
Get people thinking.
Thinking about themselves, their world, their environment, their government, their society, their education… the list is endless. And from there they can make up their own minds as to whether they want to better the world or not. All I care about is that they make their choices not because they are being manipulated, but because they’ve thought about them and consider them the best ones to make. In a sense, I want to better people by providing for them the means to the means to better themselves.
